The Canine Research Group

Giving rescue dogs jobs.

Empathy is key

By teaching handlers to understand, love and train dogs compassionately, we build empathy for all animals, not just dogs. This in turn changes attitudes to wildlife, the vulnerable in society, attitudes to women, children and, of course, dogs.

How we work

Since 2019 ...

Science based research
Our dogs have helped respected scientists and organisations build data sets that inform on the behaviour, health, and ecology of key species, including the Black-footed Cat, as well as trained capacity in a number of conservation organisations.
A sustainable model
We have built a financially sustainable model, combining education fees and community projects to ensure that your contributions directly and effectively support the most vulnerable communities and animals in meaningful, lasting ways.
Partnering with communities
We work with young people in communities, training the next generation of dog handlers and building empathy for wildlife, dogs and each other in the process.
Working with endangered or key species
While our primary focus is on mesocarnivores that significantly impact the landscape due to their geographical range, we also address invasive species, including the polyphagus shot-hole borer beetle.
